
Franke Bell

Franke is a native of Gaston County who graduated from
Belmont’s Sacred Heart College and The University of North
Carolina.
She began coaching at Charlotte’s Johnston Memorial YMCA.
During her 27 years at JMY she produced championship swimmers who
routinely set state, national and occasionally world records.
Franke traveled with the coaches as a representative for Swimming
World Magazine to the 1964 and 1968 Olympics and was nominated to
the coaching staff for the Pan American Games three times. The
success she enjoyed at JMY led to numerous North Carolina Coach of
the Year Awards, eventually having the yearly award named in her
honor and in 1989 being inducted into the North Carolina Swimming
Hall of Fame.
In 1991 she was asked to continue her winning tradition at the
newly constructed Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center, a position she
gladly accepted.

Shaynah Jerrell

Shaynah has been at ATOM
coach since 2005 and typically coaches swimmers that are 9-12 years
old. She joined ATOM after being the Assistant Senior Swim Coach at
the Chapel Hill YMCA Swim Club and the Heach Coach for Radbourne
and Wynfield Swim Teams in Charlotte, NC. She has
coached numerous state champions, Y National
qualifiers, top 5 finishers in the state, and members of the
NC Select Camp & North Carolina Zone team. She has been a coach
at the North Carolina Swimming Select Camp for 4 years and a
member of the coaching staff for the North Carolina Zone Team
for 4 years. Shaynah holds a Masters of Arts in teaching from
UNC-Chapel Hill, and currently teaches Social Studes at Ashbrook
High School.

Casey Kott
Assistant Age Group Coach

Casey began swimming year-round at age
nine with Raleigh Swimming Association (RSA).
During his age group career he won multiple state
championships and set two state records. While in high
school, he split his time between baseball and swimming,
but ultimately quit baseball to pursue swimming.
His senior year he won a state title in the 100 back and
placed second in the 100 free. He
was highly recruited and choose to swim at the University
of North Carolina on an athletic scholarship. While at UNC,
Casey qualified for Olympic Trials in the
50 freestyle. His coaching experience includes
multiple summer league teams in the
Raleigh & Chapel Hill area and he taught swim
lessons throughout college. He graduated in 2008 with a
degree in economics and currently works as
an intraday equities trader in Charlotte.
